The Japanese boat was severely damaged in a collision with the British boat at the start of Race 3 on the first day. Given the collision was the fault of the British team and the Japanese were unable to continue with their own boat on day 2, the British were disqualified from the rest of the event and their boat was given to Japan to sail.
